Food services staff are already valued members of our organization, helping to provide nourishment to our patients, residents, staff and medical staff at Providence sites, but they will officially become part of the Providence family over the coming eight to 12 months.
The transition is part of changes made in provincial legislation whereby health authorities and Providence will begin the repatriation of food services and housekeeping contracts in a phased approach. This means that contracted employees currently working at Providence sites will have the opportunity to join Providence.
The process will begin with front-line and supervisory food service workers currently employed by Sodexo at five Providence sites: St. Paul’s, Mount Saint Joseph and Holy Family hospitals, and Langara and Youville residences, who will transfer employment to Providence on June 24, 2022.
We have always been a part of one team, working together to deliver exceptional care, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to Providence Health Care.
As COVID-19 has shown us, everyone who works within the walls of our hospitals and care homes plays an important role in ensuring our care teams can deliver safe patient care, so we are pleased to welcome food services back in-house.
We will keep you updated with important changes and dates as additional details become available.
