Providence Health Care proudly accepted the Employer of the Year Award at the 2023 MOSAIC Awards on June 15. This award is presented to a BC employer for creating a workplace that supports the principles of multiculturalism and employment equity.
MOSAIC (M.O.S.A.I.C. Multi-lingual Orientation Service Association for Immigrant Communities) is one of Canada’s largest settlement non-profit organizations. Each year, MOSAIC offers a variety of scholarships and awards to celebrate diversity and inclusion, support further education for refugees and immigrants, and recognize outstanding achievements in human rights advocacy.
“Our relationship with MOSAIC has been long-standing. I am so proud to have Providence Health Care named for this prestigious award. Providence benefits greatly from welcoming diverse staff to work with us. It is their diversity and knowledge that make us a better organization. Applicants that are new to Canada already face multiple barriers for employment and small steps, such as partnering with organizations like MOSAIC, hopefully encourage more people to consider Providence as a place to work.” – Rubina Mahal, Director, Strategic Recruitment Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Human Resources

During the evening, attendees were transported back in time with music from our milestone years, and several staff from each milestone group took to the stage to share some of their fondest memories and experiences from years gone by.
The evening saw many staff reconnect with one another, sharing stories and updates on where they are now.
Members of our Senior Leadership Team were on hand to host tables and to help express our thanks to these dedicated staff who have remained with Providence throughout the years.

This year, MOSAIC honoured 14 incredible and talented individuals and organizations with various awards and scholarships at its annual MOSAIC Awards. Among these individuals and organizations was Karen Wong, a Social Worker at Providence Health Care, who was presented with the Dr. Kes Chetty Education Award.
This award is nominated by MOSAIC staff, and it provides $1000 to up to three deserving nominees who want to pursue academic or vocational studies. A major component of being chosen for the award is the applicant’s commitment to enriching the community.
“As a geriatric social worker, a researcher and PhD student in gerontological social work, and a first-generation racialized immigrant, it is my deep honour to a recipient of a MOSAIC award, which recognizes and encourages me to continue my practice and research contribution with older adults and families coming from diverse immigration, racial, cultural, and language backgrounds. As a PHC employee, I am so glad to know that PHC is recognized as the Employer of the Year by MOSAIC, and feel so proud to be a member working with the PHC team.” – Karen Wong, Social Worker
