Michelle Carter and Grant McCullough picked up nursing excellence awards from the Association of Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of BC (NNPBC).

Two Providence people were honoured for excellence in nursing for 2022.

The Association of Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of BC (NNPBC) – the professional association that represents all four nursing designations – honoured 20 individuals in a ceremony last week.

The awards recognize excellence in nursing research, advocacy, innovation, administration, education and leadership. Rising stars were also awarded, as well as lifetime achievements.

Grant McCullough, Executive Director Professional Practice & Nursing, Clinical Informatics, was recognized with the Award of Excellence in Nursing Administration.

Michelle Carter, clinical nurse specialist in psychiatry at St. Paul’s Hospital, was recognized with the Award of Excellence in Innovation in Nursing.

“We are so excited to be able to host these 20 exceptional nurses, their families, colleagues, and special guests for our first in-person event since 2019,” said Sherri Kensall, NNPBC Board Chair.  “The opportunity to host the Nursing Awards of Excellence represents a way for us to give back to and recognize the exceptional work that nurses do each day. Nurses go above and beyond no matter where they work and are the backbone of health care. Being able to say a public thank you to the 20 recipients is a way to recognize the commitment nursing professionals have to their work, patients, clients, and communities.”

At the in-person event all four nursing designations in British Columbia (Licensed Practical Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurse, and Registered Psychiatric Nurse), were recognized for their unique and essential roles in the health system.

“It is no secret that this event is a favourite for the Association and our staff team to host,” said Alix Arndt, NNPBC Interim Chief Executive Officer. “Each year we are humbled by the calibre of nominations, inspired by the incredible accomplishments of these nurses, and thrilled to be able to create a special and memorable night for the recipients and honoured guests. Congratulations to each recipient and thank you for your exceptional contributions to health and wellness.”
