PHC Heart Centre recognized their Unsung Heroes for 2022 last Thursday, February 17, 2022. The annual event celebrated those who have gone above and beyond at St. Paul’s Hospital Heart Centre.

This was the first time the recognition event was jointly shared with VCH, who also acknowledged their cardiology unsung heroes.

The Heart Centre  would like to express their gratitude to the St. Paul’s Foundation and the anonymous donor who generously supports our annual Unsung Hero Awards.

Please watch these videos highlighting the 2022 PHC Heart Centre Unsung Heroes:

Alexia Gillespie – Nurse Patient Educator, Yasmin & Amir Virani Provincial Adult Congenital Heart Program

“A part of the VPACH team for more than eight years, Alexia has been involved with many staff orientations, and she is seen as an expert in our congenital area and someone whom all staff use as a resource and mentor.”

Christopher Lau – Registered Nurse, 5A-Cardiology Nursing Unit

“His approachability, kindness and intelligence makes him a favourite, and memorable nurse for many of our patients. Those same characteristics make him an exception co-worker and colleague.”

Samantha Rematore- Clinical Support Clerk, 5A-Cardiology Nursing Unit

“Samantha has become the ‘face of 5A’, where she greets patients and family members, instilling a reassuring atmosphere of calm. She has excelled in a pilot project to establish a process for patients to have outpatient cardiology follow-up appointments booked prior to their hospital discharge.”

Tamara Wong- Clerk, Atrial Fibrillation Clinic

“Her kindness and care for people extends beyond the bounds of the hospital. She volunteers to give them rides from home to hospital to their appointments and back – as far as Chilliwack. Uplifting, inspiring role model. Being around Tamara makes you a better version of yourself.”
