The Research Challenge Advisory Committee is delighted to announce funding for nine outstanding teams in the 2023 Practice-based Research Challenge!
All project titles and team leaders are listed below, and we want to especially acknowledge the team led by Emily Murtagh, whose project won the Person and Family Centred Care award for this year. Emily notes, “It is a huge honour to receive such a meaningful award for demonstrating Person and Family-Centered Care in our Research Challenge project.
We hope our ‘EARLY-RM’ research project improves the safety of our ICD (Internal Cardioverter Defibrillator) patients at St. Paul’s Hospital. Piloting a new workflow for earlier device surveillance involving sending patients home from their procedure with a ‘Remote Monitor’ allows us to treat patients in a more timely manner, reducing the risk of adverse events such as ICD shocks, with the aim to reduce patient anxiety, and improve patients’ quality of life.
We thank our patient partners Marcel and Sean for their contributions and support in developing this project, and hope this award encourages other care providers who may not have any research experience to join a future Research Challenge team to learn the skills needed to tackle an issue that’s close to their heart, making a valuable difference for their patients.”
